The Frontera Award for Public Scholarship: Recognizing accessible, engaging essays by students, faculty, researchers, and scholars affiliated with educational institutions in New Mexico, the greater El Paso area, and northern Mexico. More Than a Prize

These awards can be a starting point for further recognition because The Mesilla Valley Independent will actively consider eligible published work for nomination, submission, or recommendation to appropriate literary prizes, national anthologies, and other forms of recognition. Depending on the work and the applicable rules, these opportunities may include the Pushcart Prize, the O. Henry Prize Stories, the Best American series, and awards recognizing short fiction, essays, flash writing, and journalism. No nomination, selection, or award is guaranteed.
